DHS Child Welfare Deputy Director Laurie Price announced former Oregon Foster Youth Connection member Nicole Stapp’s appointment as the Foster Care Policy & Community Liaison. Her message is below.

Please welcome Nicole Stapp as our first Foster Care Policy & Community Liaison. This is a new position created by the Department of Human Services to better connect Oregon’s Child Welfare programs with our youth in care, partners, and community.

Nicole’s work will help Child Welfare put youth at the center of policymaking by providing a direct connection for youth to engage. Youth are often their own best advocates and their voices can be leveraged to impact change.

Nicole’s experience as a Program Coordinator of the Oregon Foster Youth Connection, Training and Recruitment Coordinator for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and as a member of the Governor’s External Advisory Committee for the Child Safety in Substitute Care Independent Review makes her a great fit for this work. Her passion for improving the state’s Child Welfare system will prove to be a great asset to our team. She will work in our central office in Salem and can be reached at NICOLE.STAPP@dhsoha.state.or.us.
