OCO’s Data and Research Manager, Jenna Marie and Policy and Advocacy Manager, Grace Fortson, had the amazing opportunity recently to attend the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Annual Data Institute to learn best practices for ensuring data is grounding our advocacy work. Specific takeaways included updates to race/ethnicity reporting, data visualization best practices, planning for the 2030 Census, and drafting letters to the editor!
Jenna Marie stated, “The energy at the AECF Data Institute was remarkable – there’s nothing like getting people together who are passionate about both data and child advocacy. I was honored to represent OCO by giving a brief Ignite Presentation on our evolving data visualization process, which unexpectedly kicked off a great Community Cafe discussion about incorporating the use of R and Shiny in our work. I’m excited to see where this next year takes us!”
It was invigorating to celebrate the amazing work our partners in the KIDS COUNT Data Network are doing and we can’t wait to attend again next year!
