We’re passionate about highlighting programs that make a tangible difference in the lives of Oregon’s children and families. Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Marley Chavarria, a former intern at OCO, to discuss their research on Relief Nurseries—a lifeline for families facing adversity.
What Are Relief Nurseries?
Relief Nurseries are trauma-informed early childhood programs designed to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing comprehensive support to families in crisis. Relief Nurseries offer:
- Early childhood education in a nurturing, therapeutic environment.
- Parent education and counseling to strengthen caregiving skills.
- Crisis intervention and resources, such as housing assistance, food security, and mental health support.
Unlike traditional childcare, Relief Nurseries take a two-generation approach, helping children build resilience and confidence and parents to heal, grow, and gain emotional resources, together.
Please watch our video with Marley and learn more about how powerful Relief Nurseries are.
