Good news from the Capitol: every bill on the 2026 Children’s Agenda has survived its first major test.
We’re two weeks into Oregon’s short legislative session, and everything we’ve been fighting for cleared the first deadline. Bills that passed their initial committees are now moving to the opposite chamber or to budget committees where funding decisions are made.
This doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because advocates across Oregon told lawmakers that kids matter. And it’s working.
Where Things Stand
Here’s what’s moving forward:
Student Safety (HB 4079)
Passed the House Education Committee. Heads to a full House vote, then the Senate.
Outdoor Education (HB 4112)
Overwhelming support at its hearing. Scheduled for a committee vote February 16.
Tenant Privacy (HB 4123)
Passed unanimously. Moving to a full House vote.
Protecting Basic Needs Funding (SB 1507)
Disconnects Oregon from federal tax breaks for the wealthy, preserving over $300 million for food, housing, and health care. Headed to the Joint Ways and Means budget committee.
Child Care Access (SB 1535)
Gives the state flexibility to administer Employment Related Daycare and studies insurance barriers for providers. Heads to a Senate floor vote.
Youth Voting Access (SB 1574)
Allows 17-year-olds who will be 18 by the general election to vote in primaries. Public hearing scheduled for February 18.
School Meals for All (SB 1581)
Passed committee. Moves to Joint Ways and Means.
Nicotine Regulation (SB 1571)
Strong hearing. Work session scheduled for February 16.
Counterfeit Car Seats (HB 4092)
Moving to a full House vote.
What's Next
These bills still need support. The next few weeks are the last opportunities for Oregonians to make their voices heard, through testimony, emails, or simply showing up. Every email, every call, every story shared makes a difference. Lawmakers need to hear that their constituents are watching and that kids are a priority.
